Digging Spade - Carbon Steel

This is the Joseph Bentley Carbon Steel Digging Spade. As with all the products in this range it's not only a lovely hand tool, it's robust and hardwaring aswell.

This range of Traditional Garden Hand Tools is of the highest quality imaginable. The Solid Ash wooden handle of the Bentley tools is stained to a beautiful antiqued patina and is carefully finished to be wonderfully smooth to the touch. You will also notice that the handle grip is rebated. This is because all wooden hand tool handles will begin to dry out and in time may eventually shrink slightly. The addition of a simple rebate prevents the handle from twisting. The end of the wooden handle where it meets the stainless steel socket is rounded slightly and the rivet that keeps the handle fixed in place is polished so smooth as to be virtually invisible. Heavy guage stainless steel is used on the long handled tools (when stainless steel is the option). This not only increases the obvious strength of the tool, it also prevents "flex" of the head.

The long narrow blade is perfect for excavating both post and plant holes, particularly in restricted areas. The bulb planters make an arduous and repetative task a pleasure. Carbon Steel Border Spade with Ash Handle

The heart wood is light tan to dark brown and the sapwood is cream white, giving a pleasing aesthetic appearance.

Similar to the oaks only lighter in weight, there is a springiness to ash that can only be known by actually working with the materials. Its strength in relation to its weight can actually be felt.

The Carbon Steel Border Spade with ash handle is epoxy coated carbon steel, fully hardened and tempered. It has an ash handle with clear lacquered finish and Y-dee handle.
