| Collection/special features | heritage orchard and vegetables, Shakespeare Tree Garden |
| Dog friendly? |
No |
| Child friendly? | Not really, it’s a lovely site but has little to appeal to young children, although those studying Shakespeare at school will definitely benefit from visiting his home. |
| Description |
Outside the twelve-room thatched cottage is a garden planted in lush Victorian style with herbs and flowers. At the back of the cottage there is a growing Willow Cabin that takes its inspiration from Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, a vegetable garden where old crop varieties are grown and an orchard planted with traditional varieties of apples and pears. The site also includes the Shakespeare Tree Garden, created in 1988 and planted with forty kinds of tree mentioned in Shakespeare's plays, it is also home to a new series of sculptures by young artists based on Shakespearean themes. In 2001 an Elizabethan style Yew maze was added to this spectacular garden. |
