Description This 14th-century thatched Wealden 'hall house' has chalk and sour milk floor – which smells distinctly like plain yoghurt, especially in summer. The cottage garden is right beside Alfriston's parish church, with views across the river. The front garden full of colourful cottage plants, which leads to a small orchard at one side, and lawned area. The back garden and small grassed terrace, together with raised herbaceous borders overloook the River Cuckmere. There are several other 'garden rooms' including a vegetable garden with raised beds that usually exhibits the plants – including medicinal herbs – that the might have been expected to grow in this region.
