Dog friendly? No
Child friendly? As long as your child is reasonably robust and neither claustrophobic nor prone to vertigo they will probably adore this very unusual landscape
Description The original thirteenth century house was destroyed by Cromwell and the Hill Family then went on in the eighteenth century to create this bizarre but very lovely fantasyland of cliffs, crags, caves, deep woods and a series of extraordinary monuments. After decades of neglect, the landscape has been carefully restored and the Follies were opened to the public in 1993. Highlights include Grotto Hill, where you can explore a pitch-dark labyrinth of ancient mines cut into the cliff, the Swiss Bridge, which is a rustic wooden structure perched over an unnervingly deep chasm (those with vertigo should not take this route but walk round) and the Cleft, a path winding between two cliffs which narrows into a dark, creepy tunnel.
