Collection/special featuresAlmost too numerous to mention, but the Rock Garden, the redwoods and the Palm House have to be the most popular features
Dog friendly? On leads and not in all areas
Child friendly?Yes, there’s excellent information for children, staff are knowledgeable and there are many hands-on parts of the garden that children simply adore. A very good tea rooms is popular with the youngsters too.
Description Originally founded in 1670 as a medicinal garden that cultivated herbal remedies, the seventy acre site is now both a haven of peace and calm for local residents and a first class research centre for botanical and horticultural subjects and a centre for global biodiversity with over 3400 different species of plant life being kept within its boundaries. Quite apart from the Palm House there are several conservatoires that have been described as the most spectacular glass houses in Great Britain.  Look out for the peat wall garden if you are a keen specialist peat gardener.
