| Description |
Run on organic principles, the intimate garden is laid out as a series of outdoor rooms, with terraces and ponds and wonderful views. The garden, according to Charles Wade who was an architect and who acquired the house and grounds in 1919 to create a home according to the Arts and Crafts principles, should be seen as part of the house and contains a variety of architectural objects designed to blend with, and enhance the effect. In the wider scene the garden fits well into the Cotswold landscape, views of which from many parts of the garden cleverly counterbalance the enclosed effect of the compartments. Note that Wade had strong ideas about garden colour and you will see no orange plants here! |
