| Description |
The garden was Barbara Hepworth's own creation and was gradually filled with her sculptures in wood, stone and bronze. It’s an oddly and quintessentially English garden, but with a difference – the layout of the garden is made to fit the sculptures and so there is an intrinsic relationship between plantings and sculptures that is rarely seen elsewhere. Gravel paths lead the visitor in between exotic plantings to Hepworth’s workshop. There is a raised pond and glimpses of the sea allow the visitor to understand how the impressionistic nature of some of her sculpture was shaped by her working environment. |
