| Collection/special features | Knot Garden |
| Dog friendly? | On leads in car park only |
| Child friendly? | As long as you don’t have a pushchair, yes. The beautiful, slightly crooked, house is like a fairytale made real and the gardens are very pretty. The point about pushchairs should be equally made to wheelchair users and those with limited mobility, who should note that the cobbled courtyard is extremely difficult to negotiate. |
| Description |
the house has been lovingly restored, and one could say the same for the garden but in fact, because there were no formal records of the shape, contents, appearance or design of the original garden, the National Trust asked garden designer and historian Graham Stuart Thomas to prepare a design – the most interesting and salient feature of which is a knot garden based on a drawing from Leonard Meager's The Complete English Gardener published in 1670. Thomas also designed a yew tunnel, a herb garden and some really excellent mixed herbaceous borders. |
