| Description |
This extraordinary Dutch-style house is famous for the spectacular views from the roof, as well as beautiful walks in neighbouring Ashdown Woods. From the cupola you can see over to Weathercock Hill and Alfred's Castle – an Iron Age defended settlement where in 871 King Alfred is rumoured to have defeated the Danes. In addition, the house is now fronted by a formal garden, designed by the National Trust, based on a 17th century engraving. The twists and turns of the box hedges and gravel in the parterre can be seen to particular advantage from the roof. |
