Garden Structures – planter location

#While planters can be anything from an old tyre right through to a complete VW car – most of us stick to more standard approaches. If you have a garden or outdoor space that is large but long, the ideal situation is to arrange your planted containers so that the eye is drawn down the length of the garden. Placing one or more low-level large planter at the front of the garden will allow you to create a beautiful vista without drawing attention away from the flowers, shrubs or trees you have chosen for the rest of the planted area. This technique is an especially good choice if your exterior space is paved because the large outdoor planters enable you to turn a previously drab space into a garden that stands out from the crowd.

If you are thinking of buying really large modern planters, make sure you talk to stores or online suppliers about delivery options. Many planters can be very heavy and difficult to transport but an increasing number of outlets do offer free delivery. Among the lighter options, why not consider the coming year’s big thing - a circular, gleaming steel planter which is compact and relatively low to the ground. These look fantastic filled with white stones and planted with a tall shrub – very Mediterranean.

Plastic planters are also a good choice for outside areas, and are available in a wide range of colours and finishes, and of course they’re easily transportable when empty. As plastic planters are relatively inexpensive, these are an excellent way to create an up to date style on a budget.

For a large garden, why not try the current trend of installing large, low planters such as a fibreglass bowl style planter in an area of gravel or decking. They are available in a dazzling array of colours so they can be great to tie your indoor décor into your garden area. Try filling one with seasonal flowers and trailing plants for the traditional look or with a selection of stones and cacti for an ultra modern approach.
