Pole Dancer’s Shed
If you happen to see a shed in your vicinity, positively pulsing to a sultry beat, don’t panic. It’s probably just the latest craze. Pole dancing. And Jo Lawrence, a 29 year old former pole dancer, has converted her shed into a pole dancing school.
Across the UK, pole dancing’s popularity is booming. In fact, there's probably a class going on somewhere near you. Not many of them will be like Jo Lawrence’s though.
Jo got into pole dancing when she went to a club with her boyfriend Trevor, because she felt jealous of the time he spent in such places. She’d had an idea of grubby surroundings and sleazy women surrounded by baying men. To her surprise she found the girls weren’t sleazy at all and as the dances lasted three minutes and cost £20, she thought it was something she could do herself to help pay off her overdraft. So she found a class, in Bristol and signed up. Within a few weeks she was dancing in clubs.
Jo’s friends and family supported her new career, but Trevor found it hard to accept and they split up. Jo was determined to carry on and now she’s paid off her debts, taken a holiday, and even saved money. She’d had to travel two hours from her north Devon home to find a teacher, so she set up classes in her shed to allow shy women to have one-on-one tuition to overcome their shyness. Now she’s given up her club work to concentrate on teaching and she and Trevor are talking about getting back together ...
