The Garden Gnome Liberation Front
Amazing but true – there exist several organisations around the world, dedicated to garden gnome welfare. The Garden Gnome Liberation Fronts (GGLF) are international organisations involved in the liberation of garden gnomes. Many people regard them simply as practical jokers and vandals but they are organised groups who seem to devote a lot of time to their objectives.
The most notorious liberating group, the Front de Libération des Nains de Jardin (FLNJ), is a French group that liberates gnomes by returning them in their natural habitat, which involves relocating them to nearby forest with gnome sized placards stating a gnome’s right to range freely in the wild.
Another notorious group, the Movimento Autonomo per la Liberazione delle Anime da Giardino (MALAG), smashes garden gnomes to release the gnome spirit. This group has been subject to much media coverage and defends itself vigorously against the claim it is simply involved in vandalism and destruction of private property.
Another group, Free The Gnomes, is the political wing of the subversive GGLF. As a political advocacy group, they seek to promote the rights of gnomes through legal, non-violent means. They assert that forcing gnomes to stand in gardens - without financial compensation, against their free will and for the sake of ornamentation - is immoral and unethical.
Finally, Gnomes Without Homes was created as an international database of missing gnomes – its internet site allows people looking for missing gnomes to post photographs and reward offers. Equally, the site gives gnome-gnappers an opportunity to post travel photos and information on gnomes who have been abducted.
