The history, use and value of candles – candles for romance

Candles are probably the easiest way to create instant romance – and they are certainly the cheapest – compare a dozen red roses to the cost of a dozen candles – no contest! It takes little thought or time to place a few candles randomly around a room too, while arranging flowers can be a swine, not just for the gents, many ladies find being presented with a bouquet that they have to go and dunk in water and find a vase for etc a bit of a passion-killer.

Votives (short dumpy candles of the kind one lights in front of alters in the Christian faith) are economical and easy to set into in a variety of holders. A ring of tea lights in fitted holders is economical and pleasing. Candles are also perfect for romance away from home and don’t take up a great deal of room in the suitcase, either.

More elaborate ideas include:

Lining your hallway with candles or using a line of lit candles in an otherwise darkened house to lead your lover to the place you wish to be found – the bedroom, the bathroom where a candlelit bath can be waiting etc.
Another sweet thing is to get buy heaps of white candles and very simple holders and set them out in the middle of the dining table in the shape of a heart with a special gift for your loved one in the middle.
Finally, remember the value of scented candles – a vanilla-scented bubble bath, followed by a special meal with a dessert like vanilla ice-cream or crème brulee, and a bedroom lit by vanilla fragranced candles will make the whole evening one to remember for all the right reasons!
