Birds, Mammals and Wildlife Gardening – Feed the Birds Day
Is almost upon us – it takes place on Saturday 27 October 2007. There will be events taking place all over the country during this weekend, as well as in the run-up to the big day. It’s a wonderful opportunity to step up your feeding to help garden birds through the cold months ahead.
Feed the Birds Day marks the clocks going back and the winter nights drawing in - it's the time when birds and other wildlife need a little extra help as the first frost looms. So it’s a perfect moment to be reminded to fill your feeders, clean your bird tables, put out some water and give a helping hand to the wild birds around you. There can be many reasons to feed birds, and one of them is to allow you to enjoy their presence in your garden – for example if you start feeding in October, you’ll be ready for the Big Garden Birdwatch also run by the RSPB in January!
Feed the Birds Day has a range of events, run by the RSPB, which offer lots of information and tips about caring for your garden birds and making the most of their presence. It also tells you what foods are good and which birds you can expect. You may be surprised how the number and species change according to the food you put out. You can find more details in your local press or at - http://www.rspb.org.uk/feedthebirds/about.asp
